What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an integral part of ancient and modern Chinese medicine, and is considered one of the oldest healing practices in the world. The term acupuncture is composed of the Latin prefix ACUS (needle) and suffix PUNCTUS (to prick).

What are the teachings of Chinese medicine?
Traditional Chinese medicine teachings state that humans are filled with life energy (Qi) that circulates through our bodies along specific pathways known as meridians. This life energy circulates throughout the body. The unobstructed flow of vital energy is a prerequisite for energy balance and the psychophysical health of the human body. The body of each human is connected to all the vital organs in the body via energy channels. And each of these channels (meridians) has hundreds of acupuncture points along which flows the vital energy. If the flow of energy is interrupted, disease sets in. The therapist identifies the points of interrupted energy flow and stimulates them with an acupuncture needle. By doing so, the circulation of vital energy is gradually restored and healing takes place.
Acupuncture is not associated with undesired effects. However, it has to be pointed out that patients with chronic diseases (arterial hypotension, diabetes mellitus, suspected malignancies, infectious conditions, e.g., pneumonia, appendicitis, etc.) must receive treatment in line with the guidelines of Western medicine.
