What exactly is osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis literally means porous bone.Bones that were once strong become fragile and brittle due to osteoporosis. It is the most common metabolic bone disease.Movements that seem mundane may cause fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
What exactly is osteoporosis?
Osteoporoza je po definiciji Svetovne Zdravstvene Organizacij (WHO) bolezen kosti, katere glavne značilnosti so: zmanjšana gostota kosti in nastanek sprememb v njihovi strukturi, zato so take kosti dosti bolj podvržene lomom in prelomom.
Osteoporosis, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), is a bone disease primarily characterised by: loss of bone density and structural changes, with the bones in turn becoming much more susceptible to fractures and breaks.
Most people, often do not realise they are suffering from osteoporosis until a fracture occurs.A bone fracture indicates that the disease has already progressed. Most commonly, osteoporosis affects older people.
The most typical fractures occur in the vertebra, hip, or arm just above the wrist. Vertebral fractures often remain unnoticed and patients may lose several centimeters in height and their backs become curved.Bone loss is substantially accelerated in women during the beginning of menopause and then progresses at the same rate in both sexes.
