About the equipment
Originally, the DXA device was used to measure bone mineral density. However, once computer support is added, it can also be used for body composition analysis (fat, muscle, and, bone percentage).
Bone density is measured using a special device (DXA – dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) that uses X-rays. The radiation from this diagnostic method is negligible; it is actually less than the radiation we received from the environment on a daily basis.
How is the analysis conducted
How is the analysis conducted
The analysis is done in just a few minutes. It is completely painless and extremely accurate. The X-ray device scans the entire body. The subject lays on the X-ray table. The detector passes over the subject, who is placed in different positions. This way, an image of the lumbar spine and both hips, where osteoporosis first appears, is produced.
How is the analysis conducted
The analysis is used to diagnose osteoporosis while the results can also be used to predict the likelihood of fracture in the following ten years (FRAX).
The analysis results and the doctor’s interpretation are available to the subject immediately. The doctor will provide advice on the further therapy regarding the possible treatment or prevention of osteoporosis.
Repeat measurements (during check-ups) are also used to assess bone loss or monitor the impacts of osteoporosis treatment.
Using the body composition analysis to determine our body fat distribution type
Using the body composition analysis to determine our body fat distribution type
If prone to android fat accumulation (apple-shaped), fat accumulates mainly around the abdomen; this type of fat accumulation is more common in men. On the other hand is gynoid fat accumulation(pear-shaped), where fat accumulates mainly on the thighs and buttocks and is predominant in women.
Who is the analysis intended for
Who is the analysis intended for
It is intended for anyone want to know their adipose tissue distribution type. However, it is recommended particularly to those who are involved in sports or have decided to lose weight and wish to keep track of their body’s fat and muscle ratios.
