No special prior preparations are required for the colorectal exam. Patients need not worry about the exam as it is only slightly uncomfortable. Colon cleansing is not required since, during the exam, only the last few centimeters where faeces do not normally accumulate are examined. The exam uses a proctoscope. If required, minor surgery may also be undertaken.
