What causes snoring?
What causes snoring?
Snoring occurs as a result of obstruction of airflow through the airways during sleep. This causes vibrations in the soft tissues of the throat and nose, resulting in the characteristic snoring sound. This can be the result of several factors, including:
-
Blocked nasal passages
Seasonal allergies, colds, sinus infections, or chronic issues such as nasal polyps or deviated septum can make nose breathing difficult and increase the likelihood of snoring. -
Poor throat and tongue muscle tone
During sleep, muscles relax naturally. However, in certain individuals, they become too lax, causing the throat to partially close and obstruct airflow. This is particularly common in older people or in case of alcohol or sedative use. -
Excess throat tissue
People who are overweight may accumulate more fat in the neck area, which +narrows the airways and increases the risk of snoring. -
Enlarged soft palate or uvula
If longer and thicker than normal, the soft palate and uvula (the small projection on the back edge of the throat) may restrict airflow, strong vibrations while breathing.
Advantages of NightLase® laser therapy:
Advantages of NightLase® laser therapy:
The therapy improves airway patency, making breathing easier and decreasing the amplitude of snoring. Stimulation of collagen in the soft palate strengthens the tissues, improving sleep in the long run. The procedure is quick and simple and takes only about 20 minutes. After the procedure, patients are free to return their daily activities immediately. The therapy is long-lasting, without the need for a long recovery period and requires no special preparation prior to the procedure.
Who is NightLase® suitable for?
Who is NightLase® suitable for?
NightLase® laser therapy is the ideal solution for individuals whose snoring is caused by excessive laxity of the soft palate. In patients with obstructive sleep apnoea, therapy can help reduce the symptoms and improve airflow through the airways. Before the procedure, the specialist conducts a thorough examination and, on the basis of the individual’s condition, determines the most appropriate treatment method.
How does NightLase® therapy work?
How does NightLase® therapy work?
The laser heats the tissue the soft palate, stimulating tightening and the formation of new oral mucosa collagen. The tissues in the throat and at the base of the tongue tighten, facilitating the passing of air into the lungs.
Over the period of two months, the patient undergoes three short NightLase® therapies, which last approx. 20 minutes each and require no anaesthesia. During the procedure, a slight burning sensation may be experienced, similar to when ingesting hot tea. However, once the procedure is complete, the discomfort disappears entirely. Results can be noticed already after the first treatment!
Frequently asked questions about laser snoring therapy
Initially, 2 therapies are recommended. After the two therapies, we assess the situation and the possibility of final improvement. If the prognosis is favourable, treatment can be continued for up to 5 sessions, followed by a touch-up approx. once a year.
The treatment is intrinsically safe as the heat emitted by the laser is precisely directed and controlled, and furthermore, stimulate collagen production exclusively.
