Osteopenia and osteoporosis
Osteopenia and osteoporosis
Osteopenia and osteoporosis are the loss of bone mass most often closely associated with menopause and a drop of blood oestrogen levels, leading to bone density changes after the age of 50. However, there are also other reasons that might lead to the onset of osteoporosis. Most often, these reasons include corticosteroid use, untreated hyperthyroidism, smoking, genetic predisposition, and early ovarian, uterine and tumour surgery.
